Open meeting on 5 November hosted by the GRÓ Centre for Knowledge on Development Cooperation, the Geothermal Training Programme and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, in cooperation with the Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland.

At this open meeting, students of the Geothermal Training Programme will share their experience and vision of geothermal education and geothermal utilization for sustainable development in energy matters.

On 5 November an open meeting will be held, organised by GRÓ Centre for capacity development in developing countries, the Geothermal Training Programme and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Institute of International Affairs at the University of Iceland.

This is the first meeting in the series and it will shed light on Iceland's contribution to strengthening competence and capacity in developing countries through the four GRÓ schools operated under GRÓ – Centre for capacity development in developing countries.

GRÓ is a key institution in Iceland's development cooperation, and at this first meeting attention will be directed at the role of the Geothermal Training Programme (GRÓ GTP), which was founded in 1978 and has the aim of strengthening geothermal exploration and the utilisation of geothermal energy in partner countries.

How does geothermal education translate into sustainable development in energy matters in partner countries?

How have students of the Geothermal Training Programme used their experience and training to lead change and promote the utilisation of geothermal energy in their home countries?

At this open meeting, students of the Geothermal Training Programme will share their experience and their vision of geothermal education and geothermal utilisation for sustainable development in energy matters.

The meeting will be held on 5 November at 12:00-13:15 in the Ceremonial Hall (Hátíðarsalur) in the Main Building of the University of Iceland.

Among the attendees will be Silja Bára Ómarsdóttir, rector of the University of Iceland, Þorgerður Katrín Gunnarsdóttir, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland, and Peter Maina, PhD fellow from Kenya.

Bjarni Richter, director of the GRÓ Geothermal Training Programme, will moderate the panel discussions.
