Bjarni is a geothermal specialist with over 25 years' experience and has worked at ÍSOR since its founding. Before that he was in the Research Division of the National Energy Authority. He has also worked in other areas of geoscience and served on ÍSOR's executive management for many years. Guðni Axelsson, a geophysicist who has held the post of director of GRÓ-GTP since 2019, now returns to his previous duties at ÍSOR.

GRÓ – the Centre for Capacity Development operates under the auspices of UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and has from the outset been one of the main pillars of Icelandic development cooperation.
