In the latest edition of the magazine Energy Global there is extensive coverage of geothermal energy and what role it could play in the effort to increase the share of renewable energy with regard to climate matters. Furthermore, in light of the importance of Europe increasing its independence in energy matters, not least in light of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. About half of all energy consumption on the continent goes to heating, and in very many places there are untapped geothermal resources that are well suited to direct use, such as space heating. In Energy Global, Árni Magnússon, CEO of ÍSOR, Bjarni Richter, managing director of business development and marketing, and Árni Ragnarsson, engineer, discuss the status of geothermal energy in Iceland and the great positive effects that its utilization has had on the country and nation over the past decades.
