It is time for the next ÍSORÐ, the series of events that ÍSOR launched in 2022.
ÍSORÐ takes place online and everyone is invited to participate: the public, the media and the academic community. This time the topic will be the sustainability of geothermal utilization, and the meeting will take place on Wednesday, 31 May, at 13:15
Jón Einar Jónsson, reservoir engineer at ÍSOR, in cooperation with Guðni Axelsson, director of the Geothermal Training Programme and reservoir engineer, will discuss the sustainability of geothermal utilization and explain why it is necessary to moderate the utilization so that the resources have the opportunity to renew themselves. The key to finding the right balance in utilization is strong and good monitoring to ensure that the resource is treated carefully and sensibly and that it is utilized in a sustainable and environmentally friendly manner.
This is especially important in light of the status of district heating utilities in Iceland, as is set out in a newly published report on the status of district heating utilities in the country, which ÍSOR prepared for the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate.
