ÍSORÐ 27 September – ÍSOR's series of meetings about the energy and resources of the earth.

ÍSORÐ – ÍSOR's series of meetings about the energy and resources of the earth.

ISORD - ISOR's lecture series on energy and the resources of the earth.

On Tuesday 27 September at 13:15, it is time for the next ISORD, a series of events that ISOR launched this spring.

ISOR's specialists and, as appropriate, our guests will discuss individual topics, and guests will also have the opportunity to raise questions and take part in discussions. We have decided to call this platform ISORD. The events will be online and everyone is invited to participate: the public, the media and the academic community.

This time the topic will be the geological mapping of Iceland. There, Ogmundur Erlendsson, geologist, will discuss the status and future of geological mapping and how it is a foundation for general geoscientific knowledge. Knowledge of Iceland's geology gives scientists the opportunity to assess with greater certainty what has happened and to use that knowledge to predict future upheavals, such as volcanic activity and earthquakes. This has become clearly apparent in the ongoing series of eruptions and upheavals on Reykjanes. The mapping of Iceland's geology is classified as basic research that is useful for various decisions in connection with the conservation of land areas, infrastructure development, the assessment and use of earth resources, and the assessment or monitoring of natural hazards. ISOR works with the Icelandic Institute of Natural History on the basis of a framework agreement with the Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Climate on a special project in geological mapping at a scale of 1:100,000. In the talk, information will be given on the status of the mapping project, on possible progress in the coming years, and examples will be shown of how it feeds into the building of knowledge of Iceland's geology among scientists and the public.

We would be delighted to see you on Teams and would like to invite you to meet us and listen to Ogmundur's talk on Tuesday 27 September at 13:15. After the talk there will be an opportunity for discussion and questions.

We look forward to seeing as many as possible.
