Specialist in geothermal reservoir engineering
In light of growing activity, ÍSOR is seeking an ambitious individual for the position of specialist in geothermal reservoir engineering. The motto of ÍSOR's policy is sustainability in action, and the core of ÍSOR's policy and operations is to provide advice on the sustainable utilisation of geological resources and to support the government's policy in the field of climate affairs.
The projects are diverse and include, among other things, research, innovation and opportunities for development in the role. ÍSOR's clients are both domestic and foreign, and the tasks may also involve research on land or on the seabed.
Main tasks:
- Testing of boreholes and the associated data processing.
- Interpretation of borehole measurements (including temperature and pressure measurements).
- Advice regarding production monitoring of geothermal systems, e.g. which parameters should be measured, the instruments and frequency of measurements, the selection of monitoring wells and data quality requirements.
- Reservoir-engineering assessments of geothermal systems (including modelling), based on production data and surface research, and advice regarding future utilisation, including assessment of capacity.
- Reinjection studies (including tracer tests and assessment of cooling)
- Groundwater modelling.
Education and competency requirements:
- Master's degree in geosciences, physics or engineering.
- Specialisation in geothermal reservoir engineering or at least three years' experience in research on geothermal and/or groundwater systems desirable.
- Experience with three-dimensional modelling an advantage.
- Experience in the field of geothermal energy and/or energy-related projects an advantage.
- Initiative and disciplined working methods.
- Ease in interpersonal communication.
- Good command of Icelandic and English, both spoken and written.

This is a 100% position at ÍSOR's office, either in Kópavogur or in Akureyri. The job may involve work in rural areas, abroad and long working days at times. Wages are in accordance with the collective agreement of the Minister of Finance and the relevant trade union.
