The successful conference of the Icelandic energy cluster, the Iceland Geothermal Conference, concluded at Harpa yesterday. In total, nearly 600 participants attended the conference, from 54 countries.

ÍSOR is a proud member of the Energy Cluster (Orkuklasinn) and was an active partner in the preparation and execution of the IGC conference.

Our people took part in and chaired panel discussions, gave numerous presentations, and we had a booth at a special "trade exhibition" held in connection with the conference.

IGC has already established itself as one of the most important conferences in the geothermal industry, and at the conference's close, the decision of the board of the Energy Cluster was announced that the next one would be held at Harpa in May 2027.

At the closing ceremony, the conference's Innovation Awards were presented.

The awards are given for outstanding technical innovation and/or development in the field of geothermal utilization that can benefit the following:

  • Positive impact on the climate
  • Supports sustainability and reduces pollution
  • Is a "revolutionary" technological advancement
  • Is truly a novelty in the field of geothermal utilization
  • Increases output and/or efficiency in energy production

In total, 11 companies submitted applications for nominations for the awards, from all over the world.

The jury's statement says, among other things, that ÍSOR receives the IGC Innovation Award 2024, for the "flexible couplings" (Flexible Couplings), a patent-protected technological innovation that meets all of the jury's criteria;

it increases safety and stability in operation, contributes to increased safety in drilling, adds to knowledge in the field of geothermal utilization, and is a technological innovation that has the capacity to achieve widespread adoption on the international stage."

The recognition is of great value to ÍSOR and encourages us to continue developing technological advances in the field of geothermal utilization.
