"We have been working on a project with a large Indian oil company called the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, ONGC, which is a state oil company in India, and provided consultancy aimed at locating and designing boreholes, as well as monitoring drilling and the like," says Daði Þorbjörnsson, geologist, who is ÍSOR's project manager in India, for Iceland GeoSurvey (Íslenskar orkurannsóknir).
ÍSOR has been establishing itself in India in consultancy for companies on projects relating to geothermal utilization. In India geothermal energy is found in many places and considerable possibilities are considered to exist for its utilization.
Many geothermal areas have been defined and Indian oil companies are, for example, examining the possibilities of utilizing the geothermal energy, both in areas where boreholes have already been drilled for oil exploration as well as in new areas.
