An important professional field that ÍSOR works in is ÍSOR's geoscientific seabed research, which is used among other things for research on natural resources and to support the protection of seabed areas. ÍSOR provides services and research for government authorities and institutions as well as various domestic and foreign parties, and the subjects include, for example, wind energy, minerals and metals, construction, geothermal energy, hydrothermal vents and more.
On 24-26 November, ÍSOR's marine geologists, Anett Blischke and Ögmundur Erlendsson, took part in the conference EMODnet Open Conference 2025 along with the kick-off meeting of a new phase in the EMODnet collaboration.
EMODnet (European Marine Observation and Data Network) is a data and service provider that collects, harmonises and disseminates diverse data on marine and coastal areas. The aim is to make reliable research data accessible to researchers, companies, institutions and the public. ÍSOR has taken part in the geological part of the project since 2013.
At the meeting a report was published on EMODnet's vision for the next decade, EMODnet Vision 2035, and at the conference Anett Blischke took part, among other things, in panel discussions, as the project has built up an extensive database on seabed research on Iceland's continental shelf.
