Indonesia is extremely rich in geothermal resources, and it is estimated that up to 40% of the geothermal energy in the whole world that can be harnessed for electricity production is to be found on the islands. Indonesians have set themselves ambitious goals in the field of climate matters and carbon neutrality and plan that the share of geothermal energy on that journey will be substantial. In this lie opportunities for the export of Icelandic specialist knowledge, which ÍSOR intends to pursue.
Last week the Icelandic companies received Arifin Tasrif, the Indonesian Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources. He had come here to acquaint himself with the conditions in Iceland, which geologically resemble in many respects the conditions in his home region. Among those accompanying him were Ahmad Yuniarto, CEO of the energy company Pertamina, and Eko Budi Lolono, head of the Geological Agency of Indonesia, along with the Indonesian ambassador to Iceland and others.
