Carbfix and ÍSOR today signed an agreement on further collaboration in the field of carbon disposal, including abroad, but the companies have in recent years had good cooperation on it in Iceland.
The goal is to make even further use of joint strengths and specialisation in the field of carbon disposal and permanent storage. Carbfix and ÍSOR already work together on research projects in this field, including international ones. The companies have also for many years worked together on site selection for the injection of carbon dioxide, various measurements, drilling advice, seismic research, chemical research and the development of research methods, including at ÍSOR's laboratory. Now even further collaboration is planned, not least in the field of data collection and analysis along with feasibility studies relating to the technology that Carbfix has developed and will continue to develop.
Carbfix's role is to counteract climate change through the injection of carbon dioxide for mineralisation and thus permanent storage in geological strata. The company has in recent years developed for this purpose technology and methods that have attracted world attention. This year Carbfix has bound carbon dioxide in rock strata at Hellisheiði for ten years continuously, and now the aim is to apply the Carbfix technology on a much larger scale in Straumsvík along with several other collaborative projects domestically and abroad. https://www.carbfix.com/
ÍSOR has more than 75 years of experience in geosciences, mapping, research and advice on the sustainable use of geological resources. The institution also has decades of experience in teaching and training in its field, both domestically and abroad. ÍSOR is responsible, among other things, for the operation of the Geothermal Training Program on behalf of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, and the school operates under the auspices of UNESCO. https://isor.is/
