Dominica is an island in the Caribbean that has had to rely on imported fossil fuels to meet its energy needs.
Preparations have now begun for the drilling of two geothermal wells at Laudat on Dominica for a planned 10 MWe geothermal power plant. Advice on and supervision of the work is a collaborative project of ÍSOR and Mannvit. If the project succeeds, Dominica will become independent of fossil fuels for energy production and can begin to build up industry based on green, renewable energy that creates well-paying jobs. This development will be of great benefit to all the island's inhabitants. Then Dominica will have reached the same place as Iceland and Norway regarding the share of renewable energy. This project is a good example of how Icelandic ingenuity and knowledge can be used for the world's prosperity.
