ÍSOR and HD ehf. have signed an agreement with DGDC Ltd. (Dominica Geothermal Development Company Ltd.) on supervision of the commissioning and operation of a 10 MW steam power plant in Dominica in the Caribbean. The agreement also covers the compilation and processing of data on the geothermal system's response to production, which the operator of the plant is required to deliver to the owner of the geothermal resource.

The cooperation between ÍSOR and HD ehf. consists of HD providing experts in the field of commissioning, operation and maintenance of geothermal power plants, while ÍSOR will handle the aspects that concern the makeup and nature of the geothermal system, its chemical and reservoir-engineering properties, as well as the assessment of the system's response to production.

ÍSOR has been involved in geothermal research in Dominica and has provided advice to the country's authorities ever since 2010, which includes, among other things, drilling and processing of data from the seven geothermal wells that have been drilled on the island. The wells were all drilled by Jarðboranir hf., and of these, three are used as production wells and one as a reinjection well.

DGDC Ltd. operates on behalf of the authorities of Dominica and oversees the boreholes, in addition to being the owner of the geothermal resource and the power plant.

The installed capacity of the plant is 10 MW, and its electricity generation will replace the current electricity generation from diesel oil. The project thus involves a substantial change for the better in Dominica's carbon accounting; the country has about 70,000 inhabitants and this is an important step toward more sustainable and environmentally friendly electricity generation on the island.
